Guardian Fiberglass has the insulation solution you need for insulation upgrades or new construction. Discovering how much insulation you need is simple. Here are three simple steps to assess your insulation needs:

1) Find your zone

Using the US Dept. of Energy map, determine your insulation zone and recommended minimum R-value (the recommended minimum thickness of your insulation in inches).

2) Measure Up

Find an exposed area of insulation in your attic, or other location you would like to increase your insulation and measure the amount of existing insulation. This is your current R-value.

3) Calculate

The US Dept. of energy provides insulation recommendations for all parts the house in all parts of the country. After you determine your zone and the minimum recommended R-value you need, calculate the amount of insulation you need to add. Subtract the existing r-value from the minimum recommended r-value for your zone. This is the r-value you should add. Specific thickness in inches will vary by product. Its best to consult the coverage chart associated with each product.

Savings will vary. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulation power and energy savings. Ask your dealer for a fact sheet on R-values.

Understanding R-Value:

Insulation is specified by its thermal resistance or R-value. "R" means resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. The amount of insulation you need depends mainly on climate, type of heating (gas, oil, electricity) you use, and the area of the house you plan to insulate. The U.S. Dept. of Energy has established minimum recommended insulation R-values for six distinct parts of the country, or insulation zones.
